As flexible and unique as the Strongbuild 'Classic Designs' system is, there are times when a client has a design that incorporates a different stylistic approach. Strongbuild is happy to work with like minded architects and designers and are always interested in tackling well designed, adventurous projects that suit the Strongbuild building style. It is often possible to incorporate the cost effective benefits of the 'Classic Designs' building system into a 'Special Project' build. The home featured here has a roofline not available in the 'Classic Designs' system but incorporates many classic designs features, the coupler, dormas, doors and windows for example. This house is a fine example of the ability Strongbuild has for sourcing unusual and unique raw materials. For example, the internal beams were procurred from demolished factories in Sydney, the floor boards were machined out of joists from the old Arnotts factory, the blue stone was originally cobble stones from Melbourne and the slate flagstones were supplied by Mintaro slate in the Clare Valley S.A. The combination of textures and pre-aged materials is a hallmark of the Strongbuild style and is what gives their houses a sense of place, a spirit not easily found in buildings of today.

When my wife and I found this place it was half finished. Apparently it had started its life as the proposed stables to a much bigger complex. Fortunately for us there had been some sort of personal realignment for the owners and they moved on leaving this amazing structure. We checked around and found the original builder was Strongbuild, it made sense to see if they would finish it off as a main house and the rest is history. The place now shows no sign of it being designed as a stable, they simply polished it into an absolute gem. There is no doubt that these boys are something special, they understand the rules of business and budget but somehow manage to create art no matter what. We can't speak highly enough of them.
